Alliance Bank Board Members Retire
A Retirement Open House for Dale and Ed Mahlum is scheduled for Thursday July 17th from 2:00pm until 4:00pm at the Alliance Bank in Mondovi.
Life-long Mondovi residents and longtime Alliance Bank Board members Dale Mahlum and Ed Mahlum are preparing to retire from the Board after a combined total of 84 years of service to Alliance Bank and its customers.
Dale Mahlum joined the organization in 1965 working as a bookkeeper for the bank, then known as First National. He continued to work his way up through the organization over the years, moving to the teller line before becoming an ag lender and later President of First National Bank.
Dale is a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking, Madison, Wis.
During his years with the bank, Dale was involved with many organizations, including Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Mondovi Lions Club and other Bank-related committees and boards.
Banking is very different now than it was during his time with the bank, says Dale, noting he served so many great customers in his 49 years with the bank in addition to working with a great staff and Board members past and present.
"They have been a great group to work with over my many years," commented Dale. "The pleasure has been all mine."
Dale's son, Scott, currently serves as a director with the bank's Board of Directors, continuing the Mahlum legacy of involvement with Alliance Bank.
Ed Mahlum joined the bank in 1979. He and his brother, Dale, then became majority shareholders of First National Bank. Ed also owned Mahlum's Pharmacy in downtown Mondovi at that time.
Ed remembers how customers would often stop him on the street and ask him about deals they were working on.
He agrees with his brother that banking is much different now than it was years ago. The paperwork wasn't anything like it is today, either, he said.
Although involvement in banking was not the direction he thought his life would take, Ed says it has been a very satisfying experience and he has enjoyed working with all the employees and customers at the bank over the years.
Ed is also very involved with the Mondovi community as a member of the Mondovi Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, American Legion and VFW, Mondovi Area Historical Society and Sons of Norway.
To express its appreciation for the many contributions Dale and Ed have made to the organization over the years, Alliance Bank plans to host an open house in their honor. The event will take place on Thursday, July 17, from 2 - 4 p.m. at the Mondovi branch.
New Board members named
In light of the retirements, Alliance Bank now welcomes two new members to its Board of Directors, Del Twidt and Mark Nix.
Twidt's wealth of business experience will be an asset to the Board and assist with the challenges of the ever-changing bank industry.
Perhaps a familiar face to many in the Alliance Bank community, Twidt has served in a variety of different positions around the area. He was employed by Mondovi's Marten Transport as a controller and assisted in the company's growth to becoming a publicly-held Fortune 500 company.
Twidt also retired this spring as Chairperson of the Buffalo County Board of Supervisors, an elected position he has held since 2004.
Twidt also raises beef cattle and cash crops for the family-owned Oak Valley Enterprises/Oak Valley Acres in Fountain City.
He has one son, Erik, and his wife, JoAnn, is a retired teacher of the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau School District.
Nix has been immersed in agriculture his entire life. Raised on an area dairy farm, Nix has been employed with various ag-based companies throughout his professional career.
He has founded two businesses and is currently self-employed cash cropping approximately 2,000 acres of corn and soybeans. Nix's valuable business perspective and extensive ag background are expected to be of strong assistance to the Alliance Bank Board and loan portfolio.
An involved member of the Osseo community, Nix has served two terms on the Osseo City Council and has been a part of several Council committees.
He and his wife, Pam, have been married 32 years and have two children, Garrett and Kaitlin.
In his free time Nix enjoys hunting, fishing, bowling, golf and is an avid football and baseball fan.
The bank looks forward to utilizing the pair's insight and knowledge as the organization works to continue to build the future of Alliance Bank.
